What are YOU thankful for? Maybe it is Health, Home, Family, Friends and/or Food but whatever it is, “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” - John F. Kennedy.

At White Rose Senior Center we are so very thankful to have you all in our lives. We strive to be the best in what we have to offer to each of you and to be a good listener to your needs!

We have many great programs planned like Outdoor Bingo with Barbara Golf of Homeland at Home beginning at 10:00 on Monday, November 1st. (The rain date will be 11/2 at 10:00.)

Since we enjoyed the Falls Challenge Scavenger Hunt, Jenna came up with a Thanksgiving Virtual Scavenger Hunt which kicks off 11/1 too! There will be 20 Challenges. Each day at 1:00 check us out on our White Rose Senior Center Facebook Page for a prompt telling you what to find and then let Jenna (or other staff) know your answer either through Facebook Messenger, Texted to a Staff Member or emailed to jenna@whiteroseseniorcenter.org. This is going to be FUN Y’all!!!

WRSC Grocery Bingo will be held on Wednesday, 11/3 at 10:00. There is a $3.00 cost PLUS we will have e Breakfast To Go sponsored by Gateway Health. You must sign up for this activity!

Open Systems will be sponsoring our Birthday Celebration on Tuesday, November 9th from 10:30-11:30 during our lunch hour. They will also have e Table Event with Snacks and Information.

Our favorite DJ, Chris Wagman, will join us with music on Friday, 11/12 at 2:00 for our Virtual Dance Party via Zoom. Prizes will be awarded for your dance moves!

On Tuesday, November 16th the Nutrition Group will prepare the Thanksgiving Special Meal. To assure yourself a meal, let the staff know by 8:30 AM, the day before!

We are very thankful for our partnership with Springettsbury Township and our STARS Programs. In November we have 3 programs to may participate in! The first is “The Early Bird Thanksgiving with Deb Bixler” on November 9th from 2:00-4:00 and the second is “Homemade Christmas Cards with Marti and Diane” on November 16th 2:00-4:00 at White Rose Senior Center. The third is at Hoss’s Steak & Seahouse for Lunch and Bingo” on November 30th from 11:00-1:30. There are spaces available! Click HERE for the STARS Fall 2021 Session and Registration Form.

Fresh Express will not be held in November due to Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving falling on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays. The next Fresh Express Dates are as follows:

  • Thursday, October 28, 2021 at 10:00

  • Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 10:00

  • Thursday, January 13, 2022 at 10:00

  • Thursday, January 27, 2022 at 10:00

The Grab & Go Lunches are served Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays (Wednesday you also receive 2 frozen meals for Thursday and Friday).

We all wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving Season and remember to count your blessings!

Month at a Glance - October 2021

Happy Fall Y’all!!!

Join us not only for the Grab and Go Lunches but for all of the great activities we have planned outside and virtually at your own home!

Jenna and Brendaliz have put together fun days for the entire month! We have Outdoor Bingo on Mondays with Grocery Bingo being held on October 4th at 10:00. The cost is $3.00 to play. We are closed the following Monday for Columbus Day but we will be back for bingo on October 18th. York City Health Bureau will sponsor that session at 10:00 and on October 25th, Cigna will be the sponsor at 10:00!

Rite Aid will host a Flu Shot Clinic on Thursday, October 7th beginning at 10:00. This will be held outside and let the staff know if you are planning to attend.

The Commodity Supplemental Food Box and York Fresh Food Farms Mobile Produce Market will also be present on Thursday, October 7th. Bring your Famer’s Market Nutrition Food Vouchers and purchase delicious fall fruits and veggies!

Gateway Health will host a Table Event on Wednesday, October 6th and Thursday, October 14th from 10:00-12:00. They will come again for a FUN DAY with Gateway Health on October 27th from 9:00-12:00. Games, Information, Handouts and much more are being planned just for YOU!

Join us for Entertainment on the Broad Street Plaza with Frank Bodani on his Cello on October 6th and DJ Chris for the Halloween Boo Bash on October 26th! Wear your Halloween Costume for prizes! Both events run from 10:30-11:30. Don’t miss it…you will have a “spook-tac-ular time”!

Back by popular demand, the WRSC Grand Slam Breakfast and Family Feud will be held on Friday, October 8th at 9:30 on the Broad Street Plaza. The cost is $5.00 which includes: Scrambled Eggs, Sausage, Pancakes, Toast, Juice & Coffee. Of course prizes will be awarded for Family Feud!

Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15th through October 15th. On October 13th, to celebrate, Maggie Medina-Edwards, the ROSS Grant Coordinator for Broad Park Manor will distribute Mexican Candy. She is available to the residents of Broad Park Manor to assist with social work issues. Come out and meet Maggie!

White Rose Senior Center is holding a Fall Raffle beginning October 12 through October 26th. Three winners of the Fall Raffle Baskets will be drawn on Tuesday, October 26th at 1:00 on Facebook Live! The raffles are $1.00 each. We will post pictures of the 3 Fall Raffle Baskets soon and have them on display at the Center during the events of the day!

We still have spaces for the STARS Programs in October and November! On October 5th, Judy Enders will teach a class entitled “Pumpkins, Pumpkins and More Pumpkins”! You will make 3 different pumpkins to decorate your house for the season. The cost is $10 if you are a resident of Springettsbury Township or $15 for a non-resident. You must pay for the classes ahead of time at the Waste Water Treatment Plant in Springettsbury Township. The second class in October will be taught by Mary Jane Miller, You will be making a “Needlefelted Christmas Tree”. The class will be held on October 19th at WRSC. Our Octoberfest Celebration of games and music will occur on October 19th from 10:30-12:00. We have hot dogs and soft pretzels for sale. Each will cost just $1.00!!! The only thing we are missing is beer, so maybe we will have root beer!!!

Zumba Gold with Heather has a new time of 11:15 on Wednesdays. Check out the class via Zoom, Ask the staff for the link so you can join in the fun!

To end the month of October, we will be hosting a Fall Brunch and Halloween Bingo on Friday, October 29th at 11:00. This will be held on the Broad Street Plaza and features a Grilled Cheese Sandwich, Homemade Tomato Soup, a Beverage and Bingo all for only $5.00. Sign up by 10/27/21 to reserve your spot!

Celebrate National Senior Center Month with White Rose Senior Center!

September is National Senior Center Month and even though we are still not in the building, we are offering so many fun things for you outside! JOIN US…as an incentive and to celebrate National Senior Center Month and its theme “The Keys to Aging Well” we are giving away “keys” for every activity and virtual activity that we are offering in September! The person who collects the most “keys” from each Activity will win a $50 VISA Gift Card and the person who attends the most Virtual Activities will also receive a $50 VISA Gift Card!!! September 2021 York County Senior Center Virtual Programming

To kick the month of September off properly with the York County Commissioners will be reading a Proclamation to Honor National Senior Center Month! Several senior center directors and a board member are planning to participate. We will have the TV outside streaming the Commissioners Meeting or perhaps you would like o follow from home.

Suicide Awareness Week begins on September 6th. We have handouts on Preventing Suicide and Self-care Strategies for Resilience. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline number is 800-273-8255. This service is available 24/7, its free and confidential support for people in distress.

Falls Prevention Week begins September 20th. One of the Activities we have for you is Check Up Assessment Tool entitled “Are You at Risk for Falling” from the National Council on Aging. We are also holding a Virtual Activity on Facebook on September 21st at 2:00. It is entitled “Six Steps to Prevent Falls”. On September 22nd at 2:00, another Facebook Virtual Activity is “Debunking the Myths of Older Adult Falls” and September 23rd at 2:00 we have a ZOOM Meeting scheduled entitled “Fall Prevention Lecture: You Have the Power to Prevent a Fall”.

We have 2 Special Food Events planned on a Friday and Thursday in September. On Friday, 9/10/21 at 9:30, we will be serving up the White Rose Senior Center Grand Slam Breakfast! The charge is $5.00 and you will receive Pancakes, Sausage, Scrambled Eggs, Toast. Fruit Cup and either Coffee or Juice in a To-Go Container. Weather permitting, we will set up tables outside for you to eat! Sign up by Wednesday, 9/8/21.

The second Special Food Event will be held on Thursday, 9/16/21 at noon. We are having a Pizza Party & Bingo. The cost is $3.00 for a slice of pizza, a drink, and a bag of chips, We will play bingo and eat our pizza outside under the big shade tree! Please sign up by Tuesday, 9/14.

We are having another Sub/Pretzel Sandwich Sale from R&K Subs. Orders will be taken up through Tuesday, 9/21. Payment is due then. The Subs and Pretzel Sandwiches come in on Tuesday, 9/28/21 between 10:30 and 11:30. For a Sub/Sandwich Order Form click HERE.

Zumba Gold with Heather Cintron has been moved to Wednesdays at 11:15 beginning September 1st. Join us via Zoom. We will be trying to play it through the TV outside. Check out your Virtual Calendar for Heather’s Zoom Link!

Hispanic Heritage Month is from September 15th through October 15th. Come and join us for Art on the Broad Street Plaza featuring Tissue Paper Fiesta Flowers on Tuesday 9/14 at 11:00. Brendaliz will be teaching Basic Spanish at 12:00 on 9/15. DJ Chris will play Hispanic Music for Entertainment on Broad Street on Tuesday, 9/21 from 10:30-11:30. And Art on the Broad Street Plaza features Traditional Mexican Paper Cutting (Papel Picado) on Tuesday, 9/28 at 10:00.

Bingo on Mondays continues to be a big success! The Bingo Sponsors for September are: Cigna, Gateway Health, and Aetna. Bingo begins at 10:00 on Mondays. The sponsors bring great prizes so join in the fun!

The Fall 2021 STARS Classes begin on Tuesday, September 28th from 2:00-4:00. Mary Jane Miller will show us how to make Woven Paper Snowflake Ornaments. Click HERE for the complete STARS Class Listing for the Fall.

White Rose Senior Center still has the applications for the PA Farmer’s Market Nutrition Vouchers. All applications must be into York County Area Agency on Aging by September 23rd in order for them to be mailed out by September 30th. If you need the application, click HERE. The $24.00 vouchers are good through November 30th at the participating vendors.

If you are looking for a fun place to learn, grow, stay healthy, meet new friends, and have fun, then give us a call!!! We are here for persons 60 and over. We want to be THE KEY TO AGING WELL for You!

Month at a Glance - August 2021

Summer is here and we are having fun at White Rose Senior Center! August activities will continue outside with Outdoor Bingo on Mondays beginning at 10:00. Five different sponsors are happy to call bingo! They are Homeland at Home, Open Systems Healthcare, Kindred Hospice, Candid Homecare, and Gateway Health. They all bring fantastic prizes and we play bingo under the big shade tree in front of the Center!

Tuesdays offer Entertainment on the Broad Street Plaza and Art on the Broad Street Plaza from 10:30-11:30! Wally the Support Alligator with Joie Henney will be here on August 3rd at 10:30; Sunflower Coffee Filter Art Craft will be on August 10th; Bubbles Make Me Smile with Debbie Flaum (this is a fun exercise program using bubbles!) on August 17th; Music with DJ Chris Wagman on August 24th and Make a Nautical Jar on August 31st.

The FEATURE EVENT/FUNDRAISER for August will be on Wednesday, August 4th from 10:00-11:30! Brian White, the Broad Park Manor Manager, is raising money for White Rose Senior Center by being in the DUNK TANK! Yes, step right up and purchase balls to try to dunk one of our favorite volunteers! Employees from York Housing Authority are saving their money to see their good buddy get soaked! Everyone is invited…bring your friends and family and help raise lots of money for the Center! We have Minute To Win It Fair Game on for that day too! On August 2nd and 3rd, we have our Hot Dog Sale ($1.00) and Mickey’s Pizza Sale ($1.50) so plan to participate!

Thanks to State Representative Carol Hill Evans and her Staff, White Rose Senior Center will host the SENIOR FAIR on Wednesday, August 11th from 10:00-12:00! Come out and see many community vendors who offer great services! There will be goodies and door prizes at the event. The tables will be outside of our building for the community to visit. (The rain date will be August 18th.)

The August Calendar has a variety of Summer Olympic Games on it! Beach Volleyball, Weightlifting, Football Toss, Baseball, Basketball, Gymnastics and the Summer Olympics Championship Games are some the the events that are up for grabs! GO FOR THE GOLD!!!

The Commodity Supplemental Food Box, Fresh Express, York Fresh Food Farms Mobile Produce Market are offered on Thursdays. The Commodity Box is on August 5th; Fresh Express is offered on August 12th and 25th; and Mobile Produce Market is on August 5th and 19th. Mobile Produce Market is where you can spend your Farmers Market Nutrition Vouchers! We have those applications at the Center or click HERE to get your Farmers Market Nutrition Voucher Application. Click HERE for the application in Spanish. Gateway Health Mobile Unit will be present during Fresh Express on 8/19 with lots of fun things to do in the unit!!!

The White Rose Senior Center Virtual Programs are held throughout the month starting off with the PIG RACES on Facebook August 2nd at 1:00; Zumba Gold with Heather on Wednesdays at 1:00; Freestyle Fridays featuring Digital Riddles, Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud, and Jeopardy at 11:00 on Fridays. MindMatters Lecture is on Monday, August 16th at 2:00 and Coloring Contests are held on Facebook. The York County Senior Center Virtual Programs for August will be out by the end of July!

The STARS Programs for August consist of Summer Plant Pokes on August 17th from 2:00-4:00 at White Rose Senior Center. STARS Bingo and Lunch at Hoss’s will be held on Tuesday, 8/31 from 11:00-1:30 at Hoss’s and Steakhouse in East York. Both have a fee and registration requirement with Springettsbury Township.
