White Rose Senior Center Is In Need Of Home Delivered Meal Drivers!
Bob and Sally Warner deliver to several people in the East End of York usually one time a week. They find delivering meals to the older adults as a satisfying activity and they hope that someday if they need this service, somebody will be willing to deliver meals to them and help them out.
Elaine Hengst delivers meals generally twice a week and still squeezes in a few vacations throughout the year! Other awesome volunteers usually cover in her absence and we are thankful for that! Elaine states she likes delivering meals "to see the people that she has been delivering to over many years. You form bonds with these folks and are very concerned if something is not when you go to their house."
Ron Trout and Lucy Aponte answered the question of "Why do you like to deliver meals?" by stating this:
"We just like helping people out!" (Ron has been delivering meals to Yorktown Apartments for many years.)
White Rose Senior Center has a fantastic core group of people who LOVE to Deliver Home Delivered Meals and we are so appreciative of the time and service to help the most vulnerable people in our community, those who receive Home Delivered Meals. These delightful meal recipients have been assessed by Care Managers from York County Area Agency on Aging have been deemed eligible to receive the meal service. They are homebound, 60 or over, a York County resident and have no other people to help them on a regular basis.
We deliver meals three times a week that covers the seven days of the week. Many drivers deliver once a week, perhaps twice a week , some are every other week and others are "on call" as fill-ins when other drivers are on vacation.
We are always looking for new people to help with this volunteer opportunity! You just need a car, a driver's license, and a big heart to help other people! Most routes take 1-2 hours to deliver and the meals are ready at 11:00. We try to deliver between 11:00 and 1:00.
Call White Rose Senior Center at 717-843-9704 for more information!
Take a look at what some of the White Rose Senior Center Drivers and Helpers have to say when asked: "WHY THEY LIKE TO DELIVER MEALS?"
Meet Jennifer Gibson and her two sons, Nate and Andrew. Jennifer delivers every other week and her sons like to tag along in the summer and over their school breaks. Read why they like to deliver meals at such a young age...
Nate - "It makes you feel good to help others because one day you may need help too!"
Andrew - "I like to deliver meals to spend time with my mom and you get a GOOD FEELING helping others out!"
Jennifer - "I deliver meals for the Lord!"

Jim Adelsperger Retires from The White Rose Senior Center Board
Jim Adelsperger recently retired from the White Rose Senior Center Board. He has been a huge asset to the Board for 20 years! Jim has held the positions on the Board as a Member, the Board Treasurer and the Board President off and on throughout the years.
Jim has seen White Rose Senior Center grow in membership, activities, and funding over the two decades and he has been a big part of that!
Some of Jim's many accomplishments as a Board Member have been helping to secure funding with J.E. Baker Company in 2005 to bring Michael Schoenrock and Sven Maier to the United States from Germany with the World Horizon Program; working on many hours with the NCOA Accreditation process that White Rose Senior Center accomplished in 2005; giving financial guidance and expertise in managing funds at the Center over the years; and we can't forget his lead role as the Grinch in our version of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas"!
It has been a true pleasure to have worked with Jim over the years, to watch his children grow up and to see him and his wife, Barb, enjoy every minute with their grandchildren. You will be missed and we all wish you the very best with the next step in your life!

White Rose Senior Center Has a New Website!
We are so excited to share this news with you and the world! Thank you to FivesSquared, Timothy Fives, Business Supercharger and Devon Buettner, Associate Consultant, for developing this great user-friendly and functional website. We hope to provide valuable information to our members and future members. We want to recruit additional volunteers to assist with Home Delivered Meals, to serve lunch at noontime, to share a talent that you may have such as crafts, leading a class, entertainment just to name a few.
We would also like people to support all of the efforts that White Rose Senior Center does for our older adults in York County by donating money. White Rose Senior Center is partially funded by York County Area Agency on Agency and we do our own fundraising efforts like Cash Bingo which will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018. Download the Cash Bingo Flier here (in Spanish).
We also receive monies from several Social Clubs, Foundations, Municipalities, grants, other fundraisers throughout the year, and individual donations. All of these monies help to pay the rent, the supplies needed for the programming and janitorial services, the phones, insurance, etc., to keep a business running smoothly. We are truly grateful to our funders and are always looking for new partners in the community.
I hope that you find the new White Rose Senior Center web site easy to navigate and we are always open to comments and suggestions!
Happy Browsing!
